Balgrim was born to the great clan of Cragshield, a known and respected name in the halls of the sky citadel Kraggodan. Standing at an average height of 4'2" with a thick build, he wears his dark hair tied up and his beard finely braided with a silver ingot woven in. The warriors of his clan wielded their namesake over sized shields that made for a stubborn and hardy front line in battle. During his training years as a warrior he earned honor for the family working with the city guard. He found during that time his favorite patrol route was through the temple district where he could speak to the forge priests of Torag. Though war was his family trade, he felt inspired by seeing other dwarves working with metals and earth and the crafts of his people pouring out of the temples forges. He views his body now as his own craft to hone through exercising and constant drilling.

When his training was complete he had the option to step into a comfortable career as a full member of the city guard, but he couldn't help but feel like there was more he wanted to see than the halls of Kraggodan. The prince, Gorrm Greathammer, was a pathfinder of note who published stories of his victories and expedeitions with the Pathfinder Society. The prince tracked down any rumor regarding lost dwarven knowledge or artifacts, or isolated dwarven clans in distress. Balgrim figured this was as good an opportunity to be all that Torag called him to be, so he ventured to Absalom to seek his own destiny with the society.
