Name: Mortiarius Amberlast
Class: WizardAlignment: Lawful Neutral
Background: Student of Magic
Bio
Mortiarius was born to be a wizard. From a young age he outstripped the other children in his small village in intellect; his not so subtle references to which placed him firmly in the "no friends" category. He might have lived and died there never meeting his potential had not a traveling wizard happened to pass through town. Mortiarius all but attached himself to the man at the hip and demanded to be his apprentice. When the man saw that the precocious child had a measure of talent for the arcane, he agreed. As it so happened, the man was a Necromancer. This was not a fact that he bandied about lightly, as the practice of Necromancy is at best shunned and at worst illegal in many places. However, he was not some grave-dirt covered monster who sought to raise the dead--quite the opposite. He was one who sought to change public perception of his school by becoming a hunter of undead. With this mission he had met with only limited success.
Mortiarius took to this practice and school of magic with fervor, and came to both follow the man's god--Pharasma--and follow his teachings of ethical necromancy and the destruction of the undead. After completing his apprenticeship and with a few dead zombies under his belt, Mortiarius renamed himself (his previous name is of no consequence) to something befitting a Necromancer and made his way to Absalom. As he had told his mentor before he left, he hoped to use the fame of the Pathfinder Society and more importantly its journals to spread word of their cause and aid the change in their School's foul reputation.
Personality Traits
- Dour and Serious: Mortiarius is a man on a mission. He has little time or desire to bandy friendly words--though he is always willing to be drawn into a debate about Necromancy and Wizardry in general.
- Steadfast and Honorable: Mortiarius believes that those who hold power have an obligation to use it wisely; it was indeed unwise usage of Necromancy which so tainted its perception by the world. He always keeps his word and will not share a secret he has sworn to keep.
Ideals
- Undead are Evil, Necromancy is NOT: Mortiarius believes strongly that undead have no place in the world, and that their evil is in no small way responsible for the perceptions of his school.
- Magic is dangerous, Control is Mandatory: As part of his training, it was impressed on Mortiarius that magic should never be used unless in time of need. Where others might fly or float, he walks. Where others might part the clouds to seek ease from the rain, he endures. Magic is a tool, and not one to be used lightly
Bonds
- I will never summon or create an undead creature, or allow one to persist if it is within my ability and authority to destroy it.
- I will never cast a spell on someone without asking, unless they prove themselves hostile to me.
Flaws
- I am slow to act at times, thinking when I should fight.
- When my anger is roused, I am one to hold a grudge even beyond the point of reason.
